Note the time you last saw the vehicle intact. That window of time is the first thing you will be asked for.

Secure what was exposed

• Cancel or freeze any cards left in the car
• Rekey or disable a stolen garage remote
• Replace registration and insurance documents that were taken
• Change any home access codes stored in the vehicle
• Check whether a paired phone left personal data behind

Then handle the glass

Broken door glass is a same-week fix in most cases, and often same-day. Because the fragments end up inside the door, the appointment includes clearing the cavity so the regulator keeps working.

If the vehicle must sit outside overnight, cover the opening and park somewhere lit.

Reducing the odds next time

Empty the cabin. Most break-ins in the Denver metro are opportunistic — a bag on a seat, a visible charger, a laptop sleeve in the footwell. Leaving the interior obviously empty is the single most effective deterrent.
