How Long Does Windshield Replacement Take?
A realistic timeline for windshield replacement, from arrival to safe drive-away.
The install itself is the short part
Removing the old glass, prepping the pinch weld, laying urethane and setting the new windshield commonly runs around an hour for a straightforward vehicle. The rest of the timeline is curing and, on newer cars, recalibration.
Safe drive-away time
Urethane needs time to reach enough strength for the windshield to do its structural job, including supporting passenger airbag deployment. That time varies by adhesive product, temperature and humidity — which in Colorado can mean a meaningful difference between a July afternoon and a January morning.
Your installer should give you a specific time. Treat it as a hard number, not a suggestion.
When recalibration is involved
Vehicles with windshield-mounted cameras usually need static recalibration with targets in a controlled space, dynamic recalibration on a road drive, or both. Budget an extra hour or more, and expect a shop appointment rather than a driveway visit for static procedures.

- Special-order glass: add a day or more before the appointment
- Very cold or wet weather: allow extra cure time or a shop bay
